Terry's Bus

8 x 10 oil on canvas

I recently had my artwork displayed the Full Moon Gallery in Twin Falls, Idaho.  During that time I met Terry.  She has a 1970 VW bus that she bought new and is still in all original condition.  My husband and son recently restored a 1974 VW bus so we chatted about all things VW and she asked me to paint a picture of her bus for her.  Here it is, a bit bright on my screen but less so in real life.  If you see her tooling around Twin Falls, honk and wave!

Well Loved

12 x 12 oil on gessoboard

The holiday season is upon us and it seems like everyday just gets more busy than the last.  I have been diligently working on my commission and have finished the first painting of two.  I have titled it "Well Loved."  it makes me smile that someone likes their Converse as much as I do.

Saturday December 3rd 11-3pm is The Art of the Gift at Elevation 486 in Twin Falls. I will have a table set up with my small daily paintings, cards, desk calendars and gift bags for sale so come on out and give or get some local art for Christmas.

This week is Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection week so I have been busy at church packing up the boxes that have come in.  The last day for collection is Monday November 21st from 8:30 to 10am at First Christian Praise Chapel in Rupert.  If you have packed boxes make sure to get them to me by then!

24 x 24 oil on 7/8" cotton canvas

I was challenged to take a small painting and transition it to a larger canvas. Once again I chose my favorite shoes, the red converse. I painted it during the election which inspired the red white and blue color scheme.

Not Much to Show

I really am painting most everyday but don't have a lot to show for it.  A few small paintings that are meh and being scrapped.  Most recently I have been framing, planning, going to meetings and fixing our wifi that keeps going out.  I just sent paintings to the Full Moon Gallery in Twin Falls so if you are down at Elevation 486, stop by and see them.  Also, some of my work will be out at the Twin Falls airport through December so if you are flying anywhere form Twin check it out.  The artists of the FMG have been asked to provide art for the Weathervane Home home show in March which means I need to come up with 10 large paintings by February 1.  As of today that is my focus along with a commission I received from Pennsylvania and cover art for the Wilson Theatre Gala - yea, I'm really busy! Thanks for all of your support, I will keep you all up to date as things progress.

Good Times

6 x 6 inches - click image to enlarge

I love my converse. These are the ones I had in high school back in the 80's and I can't seem to get rid of them. Now I own more sedate color low tops for everyday wear but, every now and then, I put on my red chucks and head out on the town.

Reflections

6 x 6 inches

I found a new set of salt shakers at the thrift store and I really wanted to paint them. I foraged in my cabinet of treasures handed down to me from grandparents and found this silver goblet. I placed them on some black shelves that I'm not using, added a red apple for color, turned on the light and the smooth dark surface really made things pop.

John Deere

6 x 6

I painted this yesterday but didn't post it because it was too dark to take a good photo of it.  I am going to donate it to the Declo High School sports fundraiser coming up on November 10th so If you are interested in it, come out for the dinner and auction!

Sweet Summer

24 x 12

I'm back to painting hollyhocks, it was fun to do something that comes a bit easier for me today. In November I will have a small display of paintings up at the Twin Falls Airport so if you happen to be flying anywhere check it out!

Back to School

11 x 14

This is another rendition of a group of bikes that I have painted before.  Smaller and a bit less detailed, I really like how the handlebars turned out.  This will be hanging at the Full Moon Gallery in Twin Falls, ID.

Baywindow Bus in Orange

6 x 6 inches

We are big fans of VW busses at our house. My husband and son restored one just like this one but teal instead of orange. I'm sure you will see a painting of it here sometime!

Green Cups

6 x 6 inches

So yesterday's painting was a bust.  I did two small paintings of green apples and well, they are terrible.  Instead today I will post a small painting I did of my green camper mugs.  This is one of the first paintings that I did when I started thinning my paint.  Later today I will work on a painting for the Twin Falls Gallery that needs to get finished soon. Thanks for looking!

Days End

6 x 6 inches

I snapped this picture on our way to our daughter's volleyball game. Night is falling on the freshly harvested potato fields. The sunset wasn't particularly amazing but it felt like fall was really on the way. The beauty of the southern Idaho landscape never ceases to inspire me to paint.

Pears!

6 x 6 inches

Pears are fun to paint because their shapes are so different.  I had pears ripening on the counter and thought they would be an interesting challenge.  I'm learning to look at things from different points of view and this one was fun looking from above.  I used thick paint, (I usually thin my paint for these smaller paintings) and voila - I like it!

Blue Cruiser

6 x 6 inches

I like to paint bikes. Recently people have asked for more bike paintings and I hesitated since I thought the 6x6 inch size would be difficult.  It took me longer to finish and I needed to draw a more detailed picture before I began but I am happy with the results. Plan to see more bikes coming your way!

It's a Party!

6 x 6 inches

I decided to make jalapeƱo cheese chicken for dinner but couldn't pass up painting a picture of the jalapeƱos before I chopped them up.  I've been working with red a lot lately.  It is a hard color for me to use since it is hard to lighten, if you just add white you get an ugly pink mud.  Mixing more than one red together and adding yellow and a small amount of white seems to be working and keeping it vibrant.

Come out to Play

6 x 6 inches

It's always fun to paint hollyhocks.  I like how tall they are and the way the sun shines through their petals.  They are cheery and make me smile.  Some people thing they are old fashioned but I think they should be along every fence line.  I used thicker paint today and I like the texture it gives the flowers, now for fewer strokes...

Ode to Luke Bryan

6 x 6

I took my daughter to the Luke Bryan concert for her 18th birthday last weekend.  While I wasn't much of a country music fan going in, I think I could become one.  He really put on a fantastic show. Inspired by a night of fun music and fantastic company I decided I needed to paint some red cowboy boots!

Glass Study

(6x6 inches)

I've always been intrigued by paintings of clear things so I thought I'd give it a try.  I had some hair pulling out moments getting the perspective and transparency right but it truly was a fun experiment!

I am excited to announce a new venture.  Since I am a busy mom of four I have had a hard time nailing down hours to paint.  So, I have challenged myself to try and paint one small painting a day, honing my technique and finding joy in the chaos around me.  Welcome to my blog and here we go!

Left by the Door

6x6 - for sale on the Daily Paintworks website

These were left by my daughter by the back door. They were not put away for days so I had some time to get a few good shots of them before tossing them into her room hoping they would somehow make it to the closet.
